SANT MIQUEL HERMITAGE

It is found in a small mountain known as “Muntanyeta de Sant Miquel”. The uniqueness of this mountain is that all the surrounding lands correspond to the municipal terms of Rafelcofer and l'Alqueria de la Comtessa, although the hermitage is owned by la Font d'en Carròs

Historically, the jurisdiction was of our people. The access is in the old road of Xàtiva. In this place have been found numerous archaeological materials of different historical stages, which suggests that it was a strategic place for the different civilizations that passed through these lands.

Its construction was carried out in the place where there were probably roman remains, later becoming a mosque during the arab invasion and later in a church - christian hermitage. There are documents in which it is mentioned that roman remains such as coins, tombstones, remains of statues and ceramics were found. At its summit stands the hermitage of Gothic style with a porch of three arches, fronton and belfry. The square-floor building is tiled with red tiles along the walls.

The new image of Sant Miquel is in the parish church of la Font, because the old one was stolen like the bell. It has a semi-detached house with a curved arch door and two-storey roof tiles of morunas that was once inhabited by the hermit. There are various documents and memoirs of great historical value, which speak of the use, customs and anecdotes that took place in this hermitage. For example, the hermit who lived in the house subsisted in alms, but when they were not enough, the municipal coffers took care of him.The natural environment in which it is found is characteristic because you can find a great variety of medicinal plants typical of our region such as thyme, frigola, rosemary and pebrella.

On September 29 of each year, a pilgrimage is made from la Font d'En Carròs to the hermitage to celebrate the day of Sant Miquel. On the occasion of this celebration, the image of the saint is taken from the parish church to the hermitage. There is a mass in honor of the saint followed by a popular lunch. In other occasions also have been made musical performances, concerts and popular dances.
